Venice Day 9

  Venice Day 9

Weather: Overcast and humid, THB really wears down mid-afternoon (not a mistake, same-same as Day

A day of highs and lows: THB hits the fitness center. There are two women there today, one is barely moving on the elliptical and the other is barely jogging around the equipment. Both appear to be glued to their phones.

THB and DB take a water taxi to take a tour and tasting at the Vanessi winery on the island of

S. Caterina island

Tour, tasting and lunch at osteria
SC: the only apple tree on the island, apples are huge
today is gardening: lout mowers, leaf blowers make it v. hard to hear our tour guide
Hard to tell which was worse: constant flies buzzing around our heads or the lack of information provided by the guide

tasted 4 wines, only this one was "unusual" and not in a good way
cab/merlot blend
lunch, one dish was inedible so they brought us a second pasta, this time with hot pasta
this was a cold dip of brandade, nice
bread great
cold pasta with cuttlefish
hot pasta: gnocchi with eggplant
THB did not take pic of main course (small piece of fish and 5 different cold veggie sides).
Panna cotta, nive
Burano island, a short foot bridge away and THB wishes it was 100 miles away. Not since Verona had THB been such touristy oriented town, 98% schlock

see thee most "branded" t-shirt in Europe
it is a long vaporetto ride back to Venice and thus a good time for an inspector to see if anybody "forgot" to tap in

our first very good exhibit in town, and where THB hit the wall

a partially altered elevator panel...THB can't walk the stairs

THB was robbed of his sandwich 3 years ago, today this bird swooped in and right before THB's very eyes took an ice cream cone from a young woman who didn't realize she had just taken her last lick
a great exhibit

huge triptych

it is a long sad story: DB finds the closest vaporetto stop and there is a vaporetto waiting...and waiting....and waiting. turn our someone got hit by a coke bottle and the crew stopped here to report it. Now we get to see how they use the stop if it is occupied: they tie the two boats together and open the gates on each boat and customers file out  from one boat to the other to the dock. Finally another Vaporetto shows up that goes to San Marcos. It is  a local and stops at ever stop after every stop, and the heat and crush are unbearable. Days later we are on the shuttle to the Cipriani

Dinner is half a beer and some pupu's for THB, negroni and pup's for DB. Very early bedtime...
