Day 8: Very light rain in mid afternoon.
The following is a true story, not just the normal THB "maybe true, maybe not" story
Today nobody on board knew what time it was. Not the cruisers, not the staff, not the cruise directors. No, it was not an April Fools joke. The border between Serbia and Romania runs down the middle of the Danube river. One country is going on Daylight Savings Time, one is not. If the ship gets too close to one country, the time changes to that country's time and then back again if the ship re-crosses the river border.
What time does breakfast start? What time do the ship go through the locks? What time does the "face" carved in the rock show up? When does the cruise director start her spiel on what we are seeing? When does the cruise director re-start her spiel on what we are seeing? When doe lunch start?
When did Tauck clarify this issue for the cruisers?
Never
When does the staff make smoothies and Bloody Mary's: THB has no clue and does not spot 32oz cups anywhere.
When did lunch start in the small cafe? 30 minutes after the staff decided they were opening.
Mid-day, we arrive at a dock in Serbia and go through a security checkpoint to make sure our picture on our passport matches our actual face. THB and DB match (although we have "switched" our non-labeled door keys).
When does the Serian security check happen? Announced on the intercom as Serbia 1:25 pm and cruisers gather in the lounge accordingly. Didn't start until 2:25pm.
The outing is cancelled at 3pm: there's not enough time to get on buses and return by 5pm, all to see replicas of a town flooded when the dam was completed. This is the second day THB and DB don't leave the ship.
When does the ice cream social start? Serbia 1pm, on time!
When did DB go for her 5pm neck massage? Serbia 5pm, on time!
Very exciting 1 minute video: watching the lock gate close
still pics from the cruise to Donji Milanovan
