Book Review: Between The Woods And The Water, On Foot from the Hook of Holland: The Middle Danube  to the Iron Gates, Patrick Leigh Fermor (read by Crispin Redman, pub'd 1986): Book 2 of a trilogy (tho THB thinks it is only a diptych) Fermor is 19, multilingual, a gifted artist, and it is 1934 when he sets off to walk across the eastern half of Europe.  Fermor is a bit more mature, spends more time with contemporaries, and maybe falls in love. Highly recommended, especially if crossing his path.
