Day 17: Ephesus
Weather: Hazy and hot (up to 80)
Activities: THB was going through his pic problem with MM and in so doing remembered what had worked when getting ready for the trip: shut down phone and PC and reboot.
THAT WORKED!!
Remember (HAH!! THB can't remember where he was two days ago, what hotel room he's in and the night light has gone bye-bye) when the cruise hosted a dinner in the evening in the courtyard in front of the library? This time we are seeing the whole thing with B in the lead. It is extraordinary. Definitely worth a detour, especially the protected excavation and the museum (which is not at this site).
left over pic from Istanbul snuck in here
another out of sequence pic from Hotel Marmara
Back to B and Ephesus
not quite yet, now the room key goes in at a slant...no wonder THB can't remember shit
from the balcony, a view of the Med Sea, from Hotel Charisma
hotel comes with a desk and no desk chair; one of the balcony chairs is now inside the room
no idea
the amphitheater is huge and in good shape
a public latrine
output collector
small holes for small tushies (and cats)
the donor board for the best ruins exhibit ever. costs extra and take a long time to get through so the big groups don't bother. there may have been less than 10 people when we were in the covered a/c place. another family of 4 was sitting on a glass walkway enjoying their picnic
the wall tilted during an earthquake
the site of our evening dinner with the cruise
a small town that was devastated by the 1923 swap of Greeks for Turks
our lunch spot: THB and DB share dolmas and a Turkish quesadilla - excellent
our group sings Happy B'day to the guy at next table
copyright infringement?
the best museum stop on the trip? the equal of Delphi and Delos
THB wasn't supposed to take this pic
very similar to Delphi
THB has no idea what the color coding means
these bro's checked in to the Charisma right in front of us, and now here they are (half of them) at the museum
I am certainly enjoying your trip. Thank you for taking me along!!! Happy rest of your travels! Ann
ReplyDeleteA: THB appreciates your support..thx!
DeleteGreat pics. Great trip. We weren't in a "large" group. There were only 20 of us, but still didn't go to that other spot. Glad you posted pics.
ReplyDeleteYour trip brings back so many memories of traveling to Turkey and seeing Ephesus! Looks like the excavations have not progressed very rapidly in many years. Your insights and photos are a joy! Davida
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting a fresh look. This day was another special one, DA and SA had been here before and they also were able to see the changes and glad they revisited. THB
