Day 5: Aboard ship all day, no excursions
Weather: Perfect
Activities: None
Department of Glances: A brief observation is that the Star Legend is a big improvement over the WindSurf, with one exception: the food was better on the Surf.
Department of Streaks: The photos, few as they are, do not load perfectly; they do load though, and here they are
sunset
THB and DB receive Corinth Canal pins (or are they cufflinks?)
Day 6: Santorini
Blue Alert: this is when DB put down a deposit for 2 on a 2026 WindStar cruise through the Panama Canal. THB is hoping for another pin.
Weather: Breezy and clear, as the wind picked up in afternoon it got very cold in the shade
Activities: Tender from ship to shore, shuttle to downtown Fira, return is same in reverse. No gondola, shut down while safety of system is verified after very large number of recent small earthquakes. Back aboard, BBQ dinner outside ... brrrrrrr!
Santorini
Black Flag = Ship at Anchor
Greek tenders handle moving cruisers ashore (labor union rules)
Star Legend at anchor
Door to nowhere
another door to nowhere
aaaah, the doors open to stairs that drop off the cliff
Fira
another town (looking like snow) on the ridge further along the main/only highway
Red Alert: this is where the inside of THB's right knee started to throb with a dull pain. at the top of ridge we have lunch (THB did not take pic of restaurant) and had number of new (to THB) dishes
watermelon, feta, lettuce salad (not new)
Democrats have been reduced to ferrying and hauling laundry up and down the steep slopes of Santorini
Unintelligible ... Doge rules for laying off employees?
DA navigates us back to town, this is part of the route (true!)
local signage
phew: we skip this shortcut
THB and LB posed for this work of art
Closed due to fear of more earthquakes
the road to peace? Actually the name of aa great Tom Waits song
aquafarming?
two ferries pull in and out of the port, delays the tenders sent to take large group of cruisers to Star Legend
one woman on THB's tender used her plastic bag as a barf container, sorry, no pic
Santorini at night
Book Review: To The Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf (read by Gabrielle de Cuir, pub'd in 1927, recorded 2023): THB had to start over 3 times to try and keep the characters straight (the main group was a family of 10 plus assorted house guests) and glad he was as the book is an excellent exploration of the inner dialogue we all have coursing through our heads as life moves on. Highly Recommended
Brought me back to Santorini in November.
ReplyDeleteIt will all be different in the future, THB forgot to consult the oracles of Delphi when on-site
