Post storm

The river has broken through

The sanderlings convene

The dog has found her rightful spot in the household

And is emulating THB ... or...the lion sleeps tonight (and today, and this morning)

On Jan 30th the power goes out at 9:20pm, only for 11 hours, just overnight, and just right for the morning beta test.

THB and DB get to test our our power outage backups: the Jackery for power and the headlamps for light. Both work well enough that we enjoy a pre-breakfast of cafe au laits and chocolate terrine with Big Sur sea salt and virgin olive oil smeared on a local baguette (toasted in the fireplace).

After breakfast the jackery moves to the garage to run the backup refrigerator.

Cece was exposed to Covie at daycare very early in the month then tested positive. The Martins and Lauren quarantined for rest of January. All the adults are doing better now, the twins had only a momentary small setback and then were their whirling selves, which made it challenging for the adult caregivers who were under the weather.

We haven't seen the twins since Dec 12, and Katie and Lauren even longer than that. Needless to say, nobody wanted us around which made it very frustrating: no way to provide help, just moral support (and few gifts parachuted in).

In meantime, we have managed to get our first Pfizer vaccine shot when the county set up a site in downtown Oakland. Our second shot will be Feb 10 (can't wait, most people are sick for 1-2 days after that shot) and with an additional period to make sure the vaccine has taken we won't be seeing any of our family members until early March (assuming they now have antibody protection).

Late in January, the adults are well enough to take the girls to a park
