2022-23 Winter at Monterey Dunes, twin pics,

Department of Medicine: THB made a visit to the NIH in DC for a check-in with the doctors running the study of Necrotizing Myositis. THB contributed a lot of blood and a small amount of thigh tissue to the study and got a report: he's doing as well as possible. Strength is up and his CK count is in the normal range and as low as it has been in 6 years, inflammation in his thighs is lower than the last MRI showed last time. All good.

C is looking at camera, J has her eyes on the prize (in San Ramon kitchen)

Twins at the beach

Lego bouquet
Pavlova a big hit

March 10-12, flooding of roads: THB and DB were re-routed around sections of 880 on the 10th going down to beach and on the 12th retrning to E-ville

Another impassable spot...this guy got out of his car to take a closer look

Book Reviews:

Note: THB's vision is at the point where time spent reading "real" books or on an e-reader is limited. In meantime, audio books are taking up the slack!

A Fortune-Teller Told Me:  Earthbound Traves in the Far East, Tiziano Terzani (possibly translated, English version first pub'd in 1997): An Italian journalist working for Der Spiegel (German mag), is given a prophecy in the 1980s by a Chinese fortune-teller that he will be involved in an airplane crash in 1993. The year comes and he decides, while living in Bangkok, to heed the warning and spends the year traveling around Asia and eastern Europe and Russia by boat, train, and other earth-bound conveyances. His mantra mirrors Ogden Nash: progress was okay in its day, and now it has gone on for far too long. Highly Recommended

Strangers To Ourselves: Unsettled Minds and the Stories That Make US, Rachel Aviv (audio, narrated by Andi Arnodt): A NY'er contributor explains how much influence a "diagnosis" has in determining how an "illness" is treated. Aviv was diagnosed with anorexia when she was six. Both a historical and personal review of individuals (and supportin interviews their offspring, relatives, friends, doctors, etc.) who had been categorized and then recovered. Highly Recommended

and here is a leopard seal "playing" with another penguin caught just offshore

Another second or two and the penguin and the leopard seal disappeared underwater, not a good sign for the penguin

THB thinks there are two penguins missing from this pic

THB took these pics: the twins are chasing the horses, hoping for a ride?
