Venice Art Day 5
Art shows can be hit or miss. THB, SC and DB did not always agree, yet consistently we did agree on whether a show was a big muddle. Kapoor fit right into the "muddle" category.
Did a pickpocket steal a button off of THB's shirt
This nun, wearing a large white mask, looked like the Invisible Woman wearing a disguise or the Bogart film where he gets face surgery to keep the Feds off his track
Three different families on the vaporetto had kids in their Sunday finest (it was Friday)
Cross the canal from Kapoor's recently purchased mansion was a fish market
THB hated these large blobby sculptures, huge room fillers
Remodeling work is in prgress
Plenty of work to be done
The best rationale THB can come up: Kapoor is making a link between the huge blobby things and the work required to remodel an old "palace"
making art or repairing the building?
Now for some totally different Kapoor work
"small" work? THB still detests it
From the front this black object is totally flat
Not really, it is 3 dimensional trapezoidal pyramid
Flat circle from front, cone from side
THB is giving the followers plenty of chances to find something redeeming ... too many?
Best fashion THB saw at Kapoor
Number one branded t-shirt: THB's employer of 24 years
Fondazione Prada is putting on Brain Anatomy 101 primer, with plenty of video lectures, some of which are fiction. THB got bored before SC and DB, which means for THB he is not even going to audit the class
Much more interesting to THB: Peroni on tap
Spaghetti with polpetta, pretty good; one pasta, one pizza, one salad, one drink, $55
In the middle of Venice there is an outboard motor shop
THB had been here on a prior trip: it is $2/person to cross the canal in a gondola water taxi...a bargain is a tour in a gondola is around $80 and a much longer (duller, more romantic) ride
This bird is THB's new best friend, has been following ever since the sandwich snatch
Murillo left small blank canvases at many schools for 12-16 year olds - maybe as young as 10, THB can't remember now - for 6 months, then collected them up
Some Murillo covered with his own "work"
Some were fashioned into apparel
and many were just stacked up...stacks and stacks!
The Dutch exhibit was a video on "touching" which explored how happy people were taking off their clothes and doing something akin to a group grope.
No shoes allowed on the cushions/pillows/rugs provided for watching the video
Another fashion shot
mid-afternoon gelato time
Pistachio in a pistachio cone, $5 for two
SC holds out for caffe flavor, THB holds off getting another cone!
THB uses every bit of his will power to pass on these cookies, and they have haunted his dreams for two nights
An excellent show featuring just two artists. Kerunen, the fabric/basketry artists, just signed with the Pace Gallery
Paintings by Collin Sekajugo
Acaye Kerunen
Bride for the day?
Another dinner of drinks, tapas, etc., by the pool, $130 and an early bedtime
