Winter storms hit MDC, these pic are after the first big surge
barriers put in several places, this one is in front of unit 324
this shows how the lagoon south of the colony has been replenished by the ocean
this set of pics is the next day, an even bigger surge happened around 11:30am
this log was not laying on the boardwalk the day before
while we watched from the back deck of 324, a surge pushed through the holes in the barrier (which is catching most of the small trash); no water touched the units this year
another set of barriers in front of the 170s, they had been overturned the day before and the crew pushed them back in place
this was the only boardwalk displaced by this storm; last year many of the boardwalks were moved around and about 80% put back
this boardwalk was not put back in place and thus a new route to the beach was created

Happy New Year, Ralph and Donna!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year dear friends! Nice knitting Donna, cute sweaters.
Deletequite the storm surge, the new barriers look like an important addition!
ReplyDeleteThe barriers are movable, interlock, and work by using water as ballast (so lightweight when stored and moved into position). there aren't enough to protect all areas, so maybe the HOA needs to invest in more of the. The Coastal Commission doesn't allow them to be filled by using ocean water and instead the staff connects to the wells and uses fresh water, which seems truly bizarre to THB
