Day 3:

On the way to the Sullivan Street Bakery for breakfast
It's cool, we are dressed accordingly; selfie in front of the bakery
the single most disappointing bakery visit ever!! Not much selection, "something" went wrong last night...yeah, right? You should be embarrassed as hell, Jim Lahey. Look at all those empty shelves
Wolverine and almond cake, excellent
as was the toast (of the only loaf on the premises). With two decaf Americanos and tip: $50 (they now have inside dining and no bread...bizarre)
Moma tix; price seems same as in 2015...true?
Main contemporary exhibit is mostly photos by An-My Le
part of the exhibit included photos and a few items from VNam re-enactments. These are enlarged zippo lighters, ubiquitous during the war years
THB is not sure if this is a photo from re-enactment or photo of the real thing
work by Glenn Ligon, one of THB's faves
Were you paying attention to the Brazil blog posts? We visited Iran do Espirito Santo's studio/gallery in Sao Paulo, full of trompe le oeil work
THB's ranks these bronzes as near the top if not the top of Matisse's oeuvre
THB puts Serra at the top of modern sculptors though these cubes aren't his faves
Art? Functional art? Just functional?
THB definitely thinks this is just plain functional with an art-ish slant
Lunch at Le Bernardin. Co-owner and driving influence, Eric Ripert became much more well known as Tony Bourdain's best bud. He's run a great (seafood) restaurant for over 25 years, and it is still excellent. THB and DB shared: amuse bouche of salmon rillette, two seafood appetizers (octopus and Hamachi) , two seafood main courses (fluke and amberjack, cooked to perfection), two desserts (each made with dark chocolate), two glasses of excellent white wine (Alberino and Chablis), and way more bread choices than on offer this morning at Sullivan Street Bakery (four), and service with grace and humor ... about $400 for two. Supposedly the scaffolding outside had be up for only 2 weeks...THB thinks maybe 4 years is more likely
Dinner: two small ham and baguette sandwiches, an ice tea, from the Tartinery to-go on the third floor, $20, and a day-old L e Pain Quotidien chocolate cookie ($5), eaten en-suite 5498 while streaming The Last Repair Shop (worth watching, heartwarming and disheartening as music disappears from public school systems).
