2.5 hours in Reno, 30 minutes in Sacramento
Another day trip of distance for art with E&J:
Reno for:
- the Bob Brady show at Stremmel Gallery (see pics)
- a drive by of the Nevada Museum of art and the glorious Deborah Butterfield horse (and something else outside the museum THB missed)
- another drive by of the new Donald Lipski "bus" (see pics) and two women walking by saying "they should've spent the thousands of dollars on something important"
- soup at Sup (in its new location): chicken tortilla (3), tomato bisque, one half eaten club sandwich, mini-wheat loaves, $45
Sacramento for the Crocker Art Museum, much easier/better to see art this time as they had thinned out the displays. Gong Yuebin: Site 2801 is a THB fantasy come to life (or, come to art). It is a takeoff on the buried armies of Xian, mini-ceramic figures carrying modern missiles. For those wondering, THB is a fervent believer that stuff like the caves of Lascaux were actually more recent fakes created to ensnare tourist dollars (and the faux cave of Lascaux is even more of an inside joke than anyone realizes).
Here's a link to the sped up installation of the exhibit, in 42 aeconds

Back in time for dinner at the regular time!
