Day 2: Miami to Atlanta, hastagTHB's49thballpark

Day 2: Miami to Atlanta, hashtagTHB's49thballpark

HFOTD: in 2013, Atlanta finished 34 games ahead of Miami in the NL East

Weather: Humid and overcast in Miami, sunny and mid 70s iu Atlanta

Marriott Fitness Center

40 minutes on the elliptical followed by breakfast at the Marriott: two boxes of Honeynut cheerios and strawberries, $15. One room was $180, the other $140 (THB should've waited to book until the weekend before we left, that's the cheaper room).

Dept of Corrections: The tix to last night's game were $50 each, fully loaded ($39 without loading) and in prime location. The announced attendance was 18,155. NOT! Take off the leading digit and then spread 8K around ever section in the lower two decks.

Another day, another game, this time in Atlanta. A midday flight to
AA upgrade in flight controls
Atlanta, rent a car, check into the Social Goat B&B near Turner Field. THB and KB (younger sister of LB) spent many an hour in a rented house near here (and near Grants Park) in 1996 during the summer Olympics. Gosh, the O's were poorly run, especially during the first week when KB was there; JOB and BB showed up for the last 10 days and KB went off to SFGC camp.

Was it this one?

This one?

Or this one?

The Social Goat cottage is fabulous! There's a main building and then we are in a cottage about 1 block away if you could jump over the houses in between).

THB and LB stop off for a late lunch (THB ate some stuff on the plane) at Doc Chey's: Tofu salad with peanut sauce and/or vinaigrette for LB and THB has Shanghai dumplings, and a shared Magic Hat beer (very good). $24

THB also spent many many hours at Turner Field, except then it was known as the Olympic Stadium, built to be multipurpose: Athletics during the O's and then 1/3 of the stadium removed and good to go for baseball. Apparently, 20 years is the most anything lasts around here, the Braves have announced they are moving to the burbs in 3 years (and hence THB's urgency to get to see Turner Field for baseball before it is left to rot).

Turner Field is less than two miles from the Social Goat, two turns and we're there. We park just outside for $5 and get the bonus of being in a swarm of murals, all very good!

A few feet further and we're just outside the stadium, and time for THB to get shot next to some all-time greats (note: the Braves have HOF'ers, the Marlins have not been around long enough, so they don't have statues at Marlins Park).

Inside the park, it's more of same: the home team jumps out to a big lead, though tonight a 4 run lead isn't enough and the Mariners come back to win. And, we have great seats ($40 fully loaded) lined up with first base line. THB grabs one of those bazooka t-shirts (a first!) before the game and LB encourages him to donate it to a young Mariners fan sitting behind us. Dinner of italian sausage ($8.50 for THB, only $5.50 if you're a season ticket holder!) and brewskies (beers by LB, mine is dark and very good), and later LB gets one of those mix-in-your-own-picks frozen yogurts in a baseball hat things.

It's hot, sweaty hot, and by the end of the 8th we've had enough and make it back to Social Goat. Park #49 is in the books..
