Dah 4 Bogota

Weather:  On cool side, rain mid-day, not as heavy as yesterday. Fortunately we brought our rain gear. Unfortunately it was back in the bus during first set of drops.

Breakfast:  Cappuccinos all around, THB sticks with his steady diet (trying a different pastry, too sweet) and DB does the same.

Private Collector visit #1:  There were two visits to private collections today. THB made an executive decision that they will each get their own posts. Or maybe a joint post. Getting a chance to see a private collection is like scamming an invitation to a private museum which has been closed to the public. That means there are tons of pics.

PC visit #1

Angelina has joined up with the tour at the private collection to guide us through our second stop, the Museo de Oro. Yesterday she had a collision with a treadmill machine and so is apologetic if she cannot make it through today. That hat is from the clothes store A New Cross where THB and DB bought some stuff.

The tour is excellent and mostly because Angelina gives us the context for what we are seeing. It could easily have been twice as long as the hour and a half we spent in a relatively small part of the museo.

Note the chaw of coca leaves in the cheek

Back to the bus in the rain and a short transfer to an older part of town for lunch at Prudencia. This time it is a little bit different style: set dishes served individually and THB and DB get to order our main dish from a selection of three. And there are drink pairings! DB goes alcoholic and THB tries the "tea" pairing. THB liked everything except his main dish, pork shoulder, probably because he was full. THB really liked the in-house baked bread and took one to-go (gift of the restaurant).

Guillermo Stop 1: Local artist and former UC Berkeley art student has built a house that is surrounded by a dense front garden. The house is actually two structures connected by a veranda on the second floor (THB was only on the first floor of the "main" house).

Lots of art on the wall, a mix of old (mostly) portraits, a few of his and his wife's paintings, religious icons/statues, repurposed  tin can rejects instead of tiles in the kitchen, and various oddities.

Guillermo

Botero (and performance art starrng the tour group): an easy stroll to another museo and lots of Botero (better seen en masse!) and an immersion experience while watching "puppets" (automatons) making misic.

the women with the headphones and the guy in the baseball cap are not on out tour, they are getting the benefit of Angelina's discourse

THB thinks this a knock-off, and very Duchampian

THB has been to the Xul Soler museo in Buenos Aires, does not see many of his works otherwise

the entrance to the performance

now we are invited to go behind the stage and make whoopee and have it projected to the audience

Guillermo #2: There is another studio visit, Guillermo and artists sharing space are there to explain there work. THB is not much impressed and heads back to the bus.

Private Collector visit #2:  The second of the two visits to private collections today. THB made an executive decision that they will each get their own posts. Or maybe a joint post. Getting a chance to see a private collection is like scamming an invitation to a private museum which has been closed to the public. That means there are tons of pictures.

This time we are at Lalo's apartment, with much of note to see including a number of videos projections including several by William Kentridge (stretch your mind back to THB's recent LA trip and the Broad Museum). Lalo is a co-founder of Crepes & Waffles (Waffles & Crepes?) and close friends with Sergio of this morning's visit who is here to help educate the tour.
