Day 5 Bogota to Meda-Jean

It is a travel day and the tour is off and running, packing in studio visit and a cooking demonstration in Bogota followed by plane flight to Medellin pronounced meda-jean, a slow trip from the airport to a luxurious room at the Marriott con bathtub (and NO ledges in a gigantic bathroom), with a quick turnaround from unpacking to getting stuck in traffic on the way to Carmen for dinner.

Weather: on cool side in Bogota and warm, even at night, in Meta-jean.

it is a national holiday (something like prepping your xmas tree day) and the streets are empty. Some larger streets have lanes closed for bikes, strollers, joggers, etc.
Artist Rosario Lopez, who works on environmental issues. She is also a professor and very articulate on what her work represents. Her studio is in the middle of a residential area and she sublets some of the space to a fern nursery

Rosario did a project filling in corners in Guillermo's neighborhood and then saw this same "installation" in Venice

Lunch and cooking demo at Plurals, also a gallery

streets are totally empty for many blocks in either direction

turning bittersweet chocolate into something drinkable, tour members are grinding their own additives

Big Bob is reading the English translation of the cooking objectives

3 types of tamales plus salads and condiments

on the way to the airport the bus crawls along. This couple is walking alongside and is having no trouble keeping pace with the bus for a number of blocks

the dog is wearing bright pink booties

there is an announcement solamente en espanol to come to the desk if you have a rollerback. THB goes up and is told he's fine. Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyy...other tour members are having to check their bags at the end of the jetway. Que paso???????

the Marriott hotel seems brand new, and our room is terrific

Dinner at Carmens, less than half a mile away and 20 minutes in the bus. The last few feet were agony. Apparently the restaurant has totally changed in the last few years and now has a big loud bar, loud music, no lights over our table, and everyone has their phone flashlight on. The menu has two font sizes: miniscule and super small. THB and DB switch from this table to the other table, marginally better - at least there is more light.

mahi-mahi ceviche with fresh meyer lemon sorbet and coconut shavings, excellent: stir to serve. Aside: service is terrible, late with sauces, late with drinks, generally not very available. Probably because they squeezed us into a space not used for dining...maybe?
con arepa crackers
duck meatballs, also very good and an entrée size portion
pork shoulder with greens and squash. at this point THB is getting stuffed and the ambiance is uncomfortable
DB has overcooked fish with risotto
Nice!
