Day 8: Namaqualand to Cape Town, Sept 4

Day 8: Namaqualand to Cape Town, Sept 4

QOTD:
Now sometimes distance brings misunderstanding,
But deep in my heart I'm demanding:
Somebody tell me what's the word?

Weather: Pleasant, though THB wasn’t out much during the day!

Today is spent getting back to Cape Town from Kamieskroon: leave a bit after 8 and arrive at the Breakwater Lodge at 6pm for our 2nd go round here. Lunch at Nancy’s in Clanwilliam. Lousy tuna sandwich and fries.

We're renting from Budget, are all the cars this big?

The Breakwater has us in a standard room though we’ve paid for a deluxe. 45 minutes later it is straightened out and we head to Panama Jacks with M&D (they had a tip) for the meal of the trip: oysters and mixed seafood misto platter for THB and DB, two excellent fish for M&D. $150 for four including two bottles of very good local sauvignon blanc, $20 for cab ride to/from the Breakwater.

THB and DB share the excellent combo platter

THB, DB, D, M (from left to right?), already on our second bottle of very good sauvignon blanc

Book Review: Lost and Found in Johannesburg, a Memoir, Mark Gevisser: THB must be subconsciously drawn to memorable memoirs about digging into family history as written by gay Jewish middle-aged guys. Hmmmmm….these guys must also be balding! This one is very timely as it covers the last 40 years in S Africa and gives THB a lot of insights for the trip. Gevisser, a journalist and Joburg native, was also a victim of a house invasion in 2012 and gives the details of what happened and the aftermath. Highly recommended if you’re traveling to S Africa, recommended otherwise
