Day 14 (Friday, June 25,
Day 7 and the last full day on the cruise): Safari Explorer
Weather Report: Overcast in the morning,
overcast in the afternoon, overcast
Quote of the Day: This is as close to a bear as THB has been this entire trip
It’s a Covid world: The medical officer comes around
offering cruisers a chance to get tested, holding swabs out like they are
lollipops
Most of the early birds are downstairs for pastry and coffee.
Not much to see, it is foggy out there. Usual for breakfast and then we do our
last cruise activity: kayaking up river.
A bear is sighted and we coast over to the river bank for a
better view. The marshwhackers also get a good view of other bears.
The kayak ride back to the boat is very strenuous, DB hits the
hot tub, THB gets right in the shower. After lunch there is plenty of time for
organizing and packing, reading, napping and trying to see the humpback whales
off in the mist.
Dinner is followed by a slide show put together by our EL. Lots
of shots of the cruisers and a few if wildlife.
Book Review: The Keeper Of The Mountains, the Elizabeth Hawley
Story, Bernadette
McDonald: An independent woman ends up in Katmandu and over 50+ years keeps
track of the permitted climbs of Mt. Everest and other surrounding high peaks
of the Himalayas. She is more documentarian and chronicler than a lover of
mountain climbing. Her archives over many years become a wealth of information
for many generations of climbers. She is also a close friend of Sir Edmund
Hillary, working with him to provide essential education infrastructure to
Sherpas in Nepal. Neutral
