NCECA DAY 2: Sacramento

NCECA Day 2: Lots of pics, not much text. THB and DB climb on the bus at 9am after a short night's sleep and see much art, much of it ceramics, yet not all, much of it done years ago, yet not all, and much of it curated either by a museum or in individual collections. Breakfast in the room, lunch was from boxes stowed in the box, and dinner was at a party for 25 collectors, curator types and artists at Il Fornaio, hosted a major collector, TR, which turned out to be a lot of fun if seemingly fraught by peril: no masks, indoors, alcohol (none for THB, it was a metho day).

THB and DB are in a large suite at  the Hyatt Regency and THB has spread his crap all over the place.

Rest of bench is wet from rain
Bob Arneson is the single most self-portrait artist ever except this one is by Tony Natsulas
Next Stop: Maija Zack's house. She was one of the early members of the funk movement and is still alive (most are not) and this is her house. Wall-to-wall of her art and portraits. THB gives you a taste of some of them:

Like THB, Maija likes to spread out (note hammer)

Maija studied with William Wiley

Roy DeForest, a contemporary

This studio is being catalogued, hence organized

A few items for sale and tour members are making their selections

Next stop: home and studio of Tony Natsulas and his wife. Very curated, very loaded with art, and their actual living space

JS loves to collect mugs/cups for her collection

Photo of Robert Arneson finally taking a break

THB is fascinated with how books are shelved: this time the books are aligned by size as the ceiling curves downward
