NCECA Day 3, Sacramento

Richard Notkin: Two small pieces purchased. Notkin was guest "emcee" on bus, same as he was on an OMCA Art Guild trip years  ago in Montana. Full  of  great stories and exactly THB's age
Another purchase: Floats by Tricia McGuigan

Department of Confusion: Many of you may remember one of THB's recent problems from the Alaska trip, pics loading in reverse order. Well, it's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. Which means it is NOT the camera settings, because THB used two different cameras, and not the computer settings because THB used two different computers. Must be something on Blogspot (Google product). So, now that other variables are out of the way, THB saw some comments on-line on how to load the pics from computer to Blogspot. Basically, rather than loading them all at one time, you click on each one individually, in the right order. Soooooooooooooooo slow. And, it does work. Sort if. Maybe time to switch to a new blog app?

Department of Clarity: All the pics from the last few posts were taken on the I-Phone. THB has not used much of the editing function  (well, none, actually). The camera function is easy to use, the download works fine, and...what do you think of the pics? Can you notice any/much difference? The I-Phone does one thing much, much better. All the pics come out fine, no  matter how bad THB's hand is shaking.

Nancy Selvin
Marge Levy is on the tour and gave a great bit on Viola Frey. She was a good friend of Viola's, which was not easy to be as Viola was a very gruff individual

This piece was loaned by Arthur Gonzalez, done by another artist in the show

Nathan Lynch, chair of the CCA ceramics department, autographing catalog for DB

Nathan's piece in the show

The Gibson House, site of the tour's lunch spot and a Viola exhibit

This is a show of artists using  Viola's work for inspiration

Another Viola show in downtown Sacramento, of late work by Viola. FB and BB from Claremont are walking by, spot THB's hat, and join us for a few minutes. Result: THB and DB now have a dinner date for Saturday night in Berkeley

Tour now visits Barry Sakata Gallery (one of JS's many cousins; they grew up in nearby Woodlands)
Recent work on display of Bob Brady, Jim Melchert and Richard Shaw

Melchert

Brady
Barry's office: the grey Melchert plate on the back wall was sold to a tour member

DB got a great restaurant reco from Nancy, our tour guide. Canon...small starter plates, a few large plates, all to be shared. Every dish was terrific. We dined outdoors (it felt more like indoors, and was the opposite of eating in a parklet)
Avocado "Falafel"
Foccacia
The last sardine on sourdough toast
Salad
Fire roasted cauliflower
THB's fave: fire roasted cabbage
