Day 10:
- Galapagos
Quote of the day: Today, you swim with
the sharks
Weather: Sunny and 70s, perfect for snorkeling and
for getting sunburned on a few areas we don’t protect
Pics:
THB post-snorkeling lines, sea snorkelers at rest on a gorgeous sandy
beach, panga snorkelers on panga, another Wilbur creation, iguanas, lizards,
boobies, wavy albatrosses, abandoned albatross egg, albatross in flight (minus
the 500 pics THB took of blue sky), P&THB with masked women, park rangers
awaiting pick up, sunset
Moccachino needs a
slight bump, then works as designed: with milk! THB branches out for breakfast
by cutting up his own sausage into small pieces and having the omelet chef make
him a special scramble…very special since THB’s eyes are so bad he has the chef
add green pepper; THB thinks it is green onions. Oh well, it’s special.
Espanola Island: Two
snorkels in the morning, one off another spectacular beach loaded with sea
lions and, in the water (like they might be sunning themselves on shore,
negating the need to wear a mask, fins and snorkel) golden rays, sand rays,
turtles, etc., and the second off the panga where we swim with the sharks,
starfish, and extremely large schools of fish of different varieties. One shark
is enough: it is huge! The other we spot is just 4’ long…making breathing
easier. We miss out on hammerheads…half the group relieved, the other half
disappointed. Some rated this the top snorkel of the trip; THB sez “all good
all the time en las Galapagos”…
Almuerzo es Mejicano:
tacos, burritos, jalapenos, taquitos, chops de puerco con arroz, y helado con
salsa de chocolate. Muy bueno! (editor: turn the exclamation point over, por
favor).
In the afternoon,
from 3 til 5:30, we take our last big excursion: a hike on Espanola to see
albatross, Nasca boobies, and Christmas iguanas. It’s hot, rocky, and as always
a great outing.
Dinner of grilled
shrmp and chicken, salads, cake with frosting.
Incidentals on boat:
alcohol and gratuities, $440
Sharks!!!??? Good for you! Not too many snorkelers get that privilege!
