Day 3:
Quito
Quote of the day: Are
you on our boat?
Pics (to be posted later, use your imagination): In and around Quito, details to come
Weather: Hot, humid, cool, pleasant, thunderstorm
with copious rain
Up to early,
breakfast buffet at the hotel of coffee, more coffee, additional coffee, and
some cold pancakes with yogurt and cranberries (good even though cold), one
sausage and miscellaneous bread/pastry items, included.
At 9:30 we gather for
a tour of the city by Monica. On foot, we hit the highlights near the hotel:
food stores, indoor market, cathedrals, public spaces, etc. Very informative,
easy pace, and Monica is excellent.
Around 12:30 we drive
to the top of one of the local mountains (putting it at least 11k feet) for
lunch at Rumi Loma Hacienda, a resort with cabins and a restaurant with a great
view (though while we’re there, it is a bit overcast and then starts to rain
hard).
Lunch of a small cup
of what tastes like thick hot cider, fruit smoothies, potato soup and ceviche
first courses, chicken and sea bass main courses, apple fritters and ice cream
for dessert, all included in the price of the tour.
A long drive back in
heavy traffic to visit a museum of a well known artist (now dead some 10 years)
to find that the place is closed for a private party later tonight. A long
drive back to the hotel in heavy traffic and heavy rain, to collapse in our room.
Will we make it out?
Will the missing bag show up? How are we enjoying dinner? When will pics be
posted? Is the Galapagos living up to our expectations? Have you seen the
Clock yet? Can the Warriors win a game or two against the Spurs? THB will let you
know weeks from now….
